"I had a rough start finding a baby carrier that would work for me after my son was born in 2003. Finally successful, I dived into the wonderful world of "slinging" and started the Slings in the City group. The goal was to help and find other parents that had the same passion like me: "babywearing". The group took off and the natural progression was to start selling baby carriers: First from my home, then on the web and finally Metro Minis was born in 2007. Voila!

When not spreading the babywearing love, you can find me at Hot Yoga class or obsessing about the newest Apple products.

When my son was born I had 2 strollers, a crib, a carseat, a doorway jumper and a bouncy seat... but he could not stand any of them. He screamed louder than I have ever heard any child scream. My younger, cooler sisters had pitched in to get me a stretchy wrap, ("oh look, 20 feet of fabric. thanks...") which turned out to be very fortunate because he lived in it hour-by-hour probably 50% of his first year, at which point we graduated to a mei tai. I never forgot the feeling of having my wrap adjusted by a Slings-In-The-City mom because the difference between wearing a carrier correctly or not is like night and day for my back. I became hooked on getting help with different carriers and helping others wear their children comfortably.

In my previous life I made movies in Hollywood, which was great fun and long hours and nowhere near the great fun and long hours of parenting. I am always grateful for the opportunity to help parents ease the first few years using babywearing.

I feel as though I fell into this particular rabbit hole backwards! Before I got pregnant in 2007, and even through my early pregnancy, I wasn't particularly interested in alternative approaches to the birth and parenting process. For the birth, I just picked a doc at random from my insurance provider's website. As for transporting the baby, I bought that same carrier that everyone else buys from the big-box baby store, as well as a big, unwieldy stroller. Cloth diapering seemed gross - and the idea of a diaper-free baby? Not even a speck in my mind.

Slowly, though, I began to do more and more reading, and my mind began to soften. I changed care to a midwife, replaced that big-box-store carrier with a ringsling, and ordered a small number of cotton diapers. By the time my son was 9 months old, I was a changed woman: I owned 5 baby carriers, I never used the stroller, I used cloth diapers and practiced elimination communication, and had already attended my first birth as a birth doula!

It was around that time that I walked into Metro Minis in order to buy a Didymos woven wrap. Bianca and Joanna were both there, and we hit it off well. I happened to mention that I was interested in teaching elimination communication, and they invited me teach a class at the store. The day I taught the class, the store was extremely busy, and seeing that Bianca and Joanna needed help, I jumped in and started to help customers try on baby carriers...and the rest is history!

It is a true honor to be a member of the Metro Minis family and work with so many amazing parents and babies here in our beautiful city.
